Mrs. Daniels' 3rd-grade students have been reading and learning about how characters in a story have different perspectives or ways of looking at the story’s events. We sketched how Rabbit and Coyote’s actions reveal their point of view:)

Classroom chaos: the good kind! Mrs. Renfroe’s 5th graders went back in time to 1929 for a hands-on simulation of the stock market crash. Students analyzed data, made trades, and definitely felt the pressure of the stock market!
This week during professional learning, our teachers kicked off a mini-series focused on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and how they support student and teacher learning.
Teachers engaged in meaningful research, discussion, and reflection through a myth vs. reality activity, exploring DuFour’s three big ideas of PLCs, and watching a video of a PLC meeting in action noting practices that felt familiar to their own collaborative work and other key elements that stood out to them!
We’re proud of our teachers’ commitment to learning together so we can continue growing and supporting every student!

Our Dewar 4th & 5th grade girls basketball teams had an unforgettable experience attending the VSU women’s basketball game! 🏀 They cheered on the Blazers, felt inspired by strong female athletes, and even had the chance to play in the halftime game—where they brought home a win! Thank you to the VSU Athletic Foundation for supporting and encouraging our young student-athletes and helping create memories they’ll never forget.

Fifth Grade Parent/Family Day!

Mrs. McCain’s 3rd graders are bringing reading to life by exploring plays! Students are reading dialogue, delving into characters, and using textual evidence to demonstrate their understanding! Learning is fun when reading comes to life! 🌟👏
Congratulations to Dewar 5th-grade student, Ary Brown, for winning 1st place in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Poem/Poster Contest! Aryn was recognized and presented with a certificate and an award during the MLK Youth Showcase, held at the Performing Arts Center on Monday, January 19. Great job, Aryn, and thank you for representing our school so well!

Congratulations to the December Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Lambert, and Staff Member of the Month, Ms Griffin! We are so proud of each of you!

Students in Mrs. Hanson’s class traveled back in time to the 1920s to buy and sell stocks. What started as a roaring success quickly turned into the Great Depression after the Stock Market Crash. By the end, students walked away with a deeper empathy for those who lived through this time and a stronger understanding of how economic hardship affects real lives. Whether they walked away with a profit or an empty wallet, everyone walked away with a fun and memorable learning experience. 💰💵📉

Congratulations to the grade level winners of the Young Georgia Authors Competition at Dewar! These outstanding writers will now have their work submitted to the district competition. Congratulations to each of you on this wonderful achievement.

School holiday on Monday, Jan. 19th to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr Day!

Mrs. Godwin’s 3rd graders have been learning about fossils and put on their paleontologist hats today for a fossil dig. They used chocolate chip cookies and had to excavate the “fossils” with a toothpick.
Mrs. Weldon's and Mrs. Wallace’s Kindergarten class had a fun time using marshmallows to build, count, and show teen numbers!
