Congratulations to our October Teacher of the Month: Alyssa Roberts “Ms. Roberts has been a bright ray of sunshine this year, and I absolutely love working alongside her. She works hard to make learning fun and engaging for her students. Her students love going to her class, but even more they love sharing all of the fun songs, dances, and other things she has taught them to help their learning become permanent. Her positive attitude shines and rubs off on those around her. Even as a first year teacher, she has already stepped out of her classroom and participates in Student Council and the PBIS team. Dewar is so blessed to have her!” Congratulations to our October Staff Member of the Month: Ansley Nijem “Ansley is a dedicated paraprofessional who works hard every day, consistently giving her best to support students and staff. She approaches every task with a positive attitude and never complains, making her a valued and dependable member of the team.”

Students in Ms. Swopes’ second-grade class turned heart word practice into a fun game! Each desk had a whiteboard and a marker on it. When the music played, they danced around the room — but when it stopped, they raced to a board and wrote the heart word as many times as they could before Ms. Swopes called out the magic word… “Cinnamon!” Then, everyone held up their boards proudly and called out their word together. It was the perfect way to fit in some extra practice!

Congratulations to the winners and the nominees of the Book Character Contest!! All nominees received a Blow Pop, and the winners also received a $10 gift certificate to the November Scholastic Book Fair! Everyone did an outstanding job participating and did a great job on their costumes. Thanks to everyone at Dewar who participated!!

Dewar Fall Festival and Raffle!!

Parents stepped back into the classroom and became scientists for the day during 5th Grade Parent Day! 🔬 They got a glimpse of the exciting learning happening in our science classrooms and even took part in an experiment to observe signs of a chemical change. From bubbling reactions to lively discussions, it was a wonderful reminder that the joy of learning is a lifelong journey - no matter your age, there's always something new to discover. 🌟🔍

Mrs. King’s class practiced subtraction within 20 using ten frames today! We even used candy corn to add a little fall fun to our learning! 🎃🍁

Mrs. Hanson’s 5th-graders brought science to life through exciting, hands-on experiences as they explored physical and chemical changes! From launching film canisters into the air to investigating clues and solving crimes, and even making s’mores to see reactions in action, students discovered that science is all around us—and learning can be both explosive and sweet!

Dewar Veterans Day Event!

Dewar is having a writing and art competition again this year for Veterans Day. The top 3 submissions will be read at the Veterans program. All submissions must be turned in by Wednesday, October 29.

Friday, our amazing SRO, Deputy Bair, was helping a student deliver papers to Ms. Swopes’ second-grade class when we had a surprise for her — the HOT SEAT! We invited her to play one of our new favorite games, which we enjoy during Morning Meeting on Fridays.

Deputy Bair had to sit in the chair (no peeking at the board behind her) and call on students to give her clues about the mystery picture. The room was full of giggles, and so many creative hints from our second graders! Deputy Bair was such a good sport, and we loved seeing her join in on our fun!

Title I Meeting followed by DES PTO Meeting!

Ms. Ply’s third graders have been busy bringing fables to life! 🐶🐜🕊️ As part of Unit 2 in Benchmark Advance, students read “The Dog and the Bone” and “The Ant and the Dove,” wrote thoughtful summaries to demonstrate their understanding, and created detailed illustrations to accompany each story. Their creativity and comprehension skills truly shone! ✨

What’s it really like being a 4th grader? Our parents got the inside scoop (and snacks!) at 4th Grade Parent Night!
We munched on chips and cookies while chatting about the new curriculum, sharing tips to help at home, and answered all theirburning questions. Spoiler alert: 4th grade is pretty awesome!

We are so thankful for our amazing custodians! Their hard work keeps our school clean, safe, and welcoming every day. We appreciate their dedication, care, and the pride they take in our school. To show our appreciation, the Dewar PTO and Administration provided a delicious lunch from Olive Garden along with gift cards. Dewar students provided cards and artwork to show their appreciation.

October 6 was Instructional Coach Appreciation Day!!
Mrs. Shaina Larson is the Instructional Coach at Dewar. She is an incredible instructional coach who supports teachers with dedication and positivity. Her guidance, encouragement, and expertise help our school grow stronger and more successful every day. We love you Mrs. Larson!

A great big thank you to the Dewar Social Committee for providing a tasty treat this Thursday for our staff! The popcorn bar was delicious!
