Wellness Wednesdays are off to a great start at Dewar!
Every Wednesday afternoon, our staff is invited to stick around for a little time to recharge together. Whether it’s learning and playing mahjong in the Media Center, walking the track, or playing pickleball in the gym, there’s something for everyone. 🀄️🏓
We spend our days giving so much to our students, and Wellness Wednesdays are a reminder that taking a little time for ourselves and spending time together outside of the workday matters, too.
We’ve loved seeing our staff join in so far and hope even more will come hang out with us next Wednesday!

This week Ms. Herman's class explored many types of weather and the students discovered that just like lighting is electricity, they have electricity in their bodies! They powered a lighting stick during Large Group Literacy.
💪 One of the best things about Dewar is the way our Viking family shows up for one another!
Last night, Mrs. Robinson performed her recital at VSU, and several members of her Dewar family were there to cheer her on — including some of her fellow teachers and even a sweet student who arrived with flowers in hand. 💐🎶
Of course, Mrs. Robinson says she’d like to think she made Mozart proud. 😊 But what she really wanted to share was her gratitude for the people who took time out of their evening to be there.
At Dewar, support doesn’t stop when the school day ends. We celebrate each other, encourage each other, and show up for each other — and that’s something worth sharing.

🎨 Dot Day + a little technology magic!
Dr. Miller’s students started by creating their own artwork on a Dot Day coloring page. Then, they used Quiver to bring their creations to life in 3D!
Dr. Miller snapped a picture of each one, took them into Canva and then created a poster showcasing each student’s artwork in its own frame.
And LOOK how awesome it turned out! 😍
We love seeing teachers find creative ways to combine student artwork, technology, and a little AI magic. Every dot is different, and together they made something pretty amazing! 🎨✨

🎲🏠 Math Monopoly in Mrs. Scott’s Class! 🏠🎲
Our 4th grade mathematicians teamed up to review their place value skills in a fun Monopoly-themed room transformation! Students worked together to solve problems, sharpen their math skills, and practice explaining their thinking as they moved through different review stations.
From identifying place values to comparing numbers and rounding, our students were busy making mathematical moves and learning from one another. We love seeing our Vikings collaborate, problem-solve, and turn math review into an exciting adventure! ❤️🤍💙

For the past three weeks, Mrs. Lopez’s and Mrs. Cooper’s students have been learning all about corn production while putting their reading, writing, and technology skills to work!
Students researched and read informational texts about how corn is grown and produced, then used what they learned to write an expository essay. Next, they took their writing to the next level by creating their own infographics in Canva and audio recording their essays directly into their designs! 🎙️💻📚
After all that hard work, it was finally time to PUBLISH! 🎉 Students shared their finished infographics and essays while enjoying a well-earned Popcorn Publishing Party! 🍿

Earth science sure is sweet! Using graham crackers and frosting, 5th grade students modeled how Earth’s tectonic plates move and interact to create some of our planet’s most amazing landforms—including mountains and volcanoes! 🌋🏔️They pushed, pulled, collided, and observed as their “plates” showed us that Earth’s surface is constantly changing! 🌎🔬
Our 5th graders studied for their upcoming test by becoming geologists for the day! 👩🔬👨🔬
They explored field sites, observed evidence, collected data, and investigated how Earth’s surface changes over time.
