Attention Parents: The safety of your child is our 1st priority...during morning car rider drop off, please refrain from pulling off the car rider line and parking on the grass near the gate. This has caused traffic issues and distractions, with cars almost causing accidents. We’ve also seen children reaching over the fence, which is unsafe. As we honor and reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we hope all of our Viking families enjoyed the holiday. In light of Winter Storm Demi, we want to share the following updates: Tuesday, January 21st: Schools will operate on a normal schedule. Based on current forecasts and consultation with Lowndes EMA and other officials, there are no anticipated weather-related threats during school hours. After-School Activities: All after-school programs, including Prime Time, will end by 5:00 PM. The scheduled Lowndes vs. Colquitt basketball game is postponed. Wednesday, January 22nd: Out of an abundance of caution regarding potential ice and snow, all Lowndes County Schools and system offices will be closed on Wednesday. The safety of our students, staff, and community is always our highest priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Viking Family, We have been eagerly anticipating the return of our students; however, the safety of both our staff and students remains our top priority. Following a reassessment today, we have identified over 130 roads that present challenges for bus navigation or are currently impassable due to debris and obstructions from downed lines. We have been advised it is not safe for our buses to navigate many of our roadways. In addition to this, I-75 is grid locked due to evacuees, and this is a main thoroughfare for our buses. We are actively in communication with Lowndes County officials, Lowndes EMA, and local utility companies, all of whom are working diligently to resolve these issues in our community. We appreciate their tireless work and recognize that it will take more time to clear roadways so we can safely transport students to school. With this in mind, students will return to school following Fall Break on Wednesday, October 16th.

As we recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene, we want to be mindful of the needs of our #OneLowndes Family.
