Superintendent, Sandra Wilcher

Sandra Wilcher proudly serves as Superintendent of Lowndes County Schools, leading more than 10,000 students and 1,400 dedicated employees across 11 schools. A lifelong educator and servant leader, Mrs. Wilcher has devoted her career to the students, families, and employees of Lowndes County Schools.

Mrs. Wilcher earned an Educational Specialist degree in School Leadership and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Since beginning her career with Lowndes County Schools in 1999, she has served in a variety of leadership roles, including School Social Worker, Social Services Coordinator, Director of Student Support Services, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, and now Superintendent. Throughout her career, she has worked alongside every school and department in the district, giving her an understanding of the unique strengths, opportunities, and needs across the One Lowndes community.

A passionate advocate for children, Mrs. Wilcher believes that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and personally. Her leadership has been rooted in removing barriers to learning and ensuring that schools provide the support students need to thrive. She has secured millions of dollars in grant funding to expand student services, including mental health initiatives, suicide prevention training, homeless education support, school-based mental health professionals, in-home tutoring, and other programs designed to strengthen student success.

Mrs. Wilcher is widely recognized for developing innovative systems and programs that continue to benefit students throughout the district. She spearheaded the Journey Program, which provides academic and behavioral support for elementary and middle school students with significant emotional and behavioral needs, and has served as a certified Sources of Strength Trainer committed to promoting student wellness and resilience.

As Superintendent, Mrs. Wilcher is committed to building upon Lowndes County Schools' tradition of excellence while preparing students for the future. She believes that providing students with exceptional educational opportunities begins with responsible stewardship of public resources. Through thoughtful planning, strategic budgeting, and fiscally responsible decision-making, she is committed to maintaining the district's strong financial foundation while ensuring that resources are aligned with the needs of students, employees, and schools. Her approach balances innovation with accountability, allowing the district to invest in high-quality instruction, safe learning environments, employee support, and long-term capital improvements while remaining financially sound.

Under her leadership, the district continues to celebrate outstanding academic achievement, innovative instructional programs, strong community partnerships, and a culture centered on continuous improvement. She believes public education has the unique responsibility to serve every child and is passionate about creating opportunities that empower students to discover their potential and pursue their dreams.

Mrs. Wilcher's leadership philosophy is captured in the district's One Lowndes vision -working together to empower, challenge, and inspire every student, every day. She believes the strongest schools are built through meaningful relationships with students, families, employees, and the community, and that lasting success is achieved when everyone works together toward a common purpose.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tenry Berry

Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Tenry Berry

Dr. Tenry Berry is the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Operations, and Technology. Dr. Berry brings a wealth of experience, skills, and accolades to this vital position. With an impressive 22-year career as a Viking, he has held various roles throughout the school system. He earned his Bachelor of Education from Valdosta State University and continued his education at Nova Southeastern University, ultimately obtaining his Doctor of Education.

Dr. Berry began his career as a middle school math teacher, and his administrative journey commenced as an Assistant Principal at Clyattville Elementary School. In 2016, he took over as Principal, where he led the school for seven years. During his time at the school level, he garnered numerous awards, including Teacher of the Year, the LCS Great Award, and the African American Difference Maker Award. He quickly earned a reputation for his mentoring, involvement, and dynamic leadership.

In 2023, Dr. Berry joined the district leadership team as the Director of Teacher & Leader Quality, a role in which he made a significant impact on LCS staff. He successfully relaunched the district’s SEEDS induction program, supported new teachers and administrators, and led the Aspiring Leaders program. Additionally, he piloted the GaLeads program and was recognized as a “Star Student” for his contributions.

The Lowndes County Schools community looks forward to his leadership as he serves as a key member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team. As Assistant Superintendent, he will oversee critical district functions, ensuring operational excellence, technological advancement, and a supportive work environment for all employees.

Katie Chappuis

Assistant Superintendent, Katie Chappuis

Mrs. Chappuis is the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for Lowndes County Schools. With 29 years of experience in education as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director, Chappuis joined Lowndes County Schools in 2013, being named Principal of Dewar Elementary School shortly after. Chappuis transitioned to the Lowndes County Board of Education as the Director of Student Support in October of 2021, where she remained until moving into her role as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.  Chappuis manages  all student services within the district, collaborating with staff, administrators, and families to improve resources and programs that address students' academic, health, social, and emotional needs. Mrs. Chappuis will work to  expand mental health services, enhance support for special education, and advance initiatives that meet the diverse needs of students and their families.

LeAnne McCall

Assistant Superintendent, LeAnne McCall

Mrs. LeAnne McCall is the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning & Federal Programs for Lowndes County Schools. She was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, and attended public schools K-12 in Cobb County. Mrs. McCall earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia. After working for the federal government for several years, Mrs. McCall decided to pursue her calling as an educator and enrolled at the University of West Georgia to obtain her teaching certification.

In 1997, Mrs. McCall began her career in education working at Awtrey Middle School and later at North Cobb High School. Mrs. McCall moved to Valdosta in 2008 to work as an Assistant Principal at Lowndes High School.  In 2011, Mrs. McCall was named as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Grades 6-12 for Lowndes County Schools. From July 2015 until early 2023, Mrs. McCall served as the Principal of Lowndes High School and was named the 2022 Georgia High School Principal of the Year.
