The Lowndes Middle School eighth-grader, Henry Corbitt, won the district spelling bee held at Lowndes High School Friday, February 1, 2019.

After the competition, Corbitt said, “I feel great!” This is Henry’s second time winning the county spelling bee. He will advance to the regional bee in Bainbridge on Feb. 23.

If he wins at regionals, he will move on to the state competition March 15 in Atlanta. Corbitt competed at the state spelling bee when he was a fifth grader; he placed 13th.

Our second place winner was Baines Blanton, a seventh-grader at Pine Grove Middle School. James William Hiers and Abby Griffin tied for third place.

Pam Guice was the caller. The judges were Dane Heard, Heather Morin, and Al Rowell. Emily Lewis interpreted.

Congratulations to all winners and participants!
