ESOL Title III

English for Speakers of Other Languages

The Lowndes County School System  provides services through the  English to Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) program to qualifying students in each of our schools for grades kindergarten through 12th grade.  This program is funded through Title III, a federally funded program that provides supplemental services.  The ESOL program focuses on supporting English Learners (ELs) . The goal of the ESOL program is to assist the students in becoming  English language proficient and  successful in their academic classes.  Program standards emphasize  social and academic language proficiency using World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) English Language Proficiency Standards. English Learners are tested annually with the ACCESS Test which assesses academic language tasks in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking across the content areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
