In-District Transfers and Tuition Requests For 2017-18 School Year
|It is the goal of Lowndes County Schools to provide as much choice to our residents as economically possible. However, the system must first meet the needs of students within the school attendance zones before allowing school choice transfers and accepting new tuition students. The growth of our system and the continuation of austerity budget cuts can make this extremely difficult especially at our larger schools.
At this time the system is accepting requests for school attendance zone changes and tuition requests – both for qualifying property owners and non-qualifying property owners - for the 2017-18 school year. Parents/guardians have until April 14, 2017 to complete and submit a request.
Note: At this time the system is simply gauging the number of requests for the 2017-18 school year. Once received, all applications will be reviewed by the system’s attendance zoning committee. It is our goal to notify all applicants of the system’s decision no later than the first week of May 2017

Petition for A High School Diploma
On March 30, 2015, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law House Bill 91. House Bill 91 retroactively eliminates the Georgia High School Graduation Test as a requirement for students who took the test between 1994 (when the test was established) and the present. State Board Rule in 2011 eliminated the test as a requirement for graduation, but that elimination did not extend to students who had already taken the test. House Bill 91 extends back to all graduation tests, beginning with the Basic Skills Test which was administered to students who enrolled for the first time in grade 9 during the 1981-1982 school year.
House Bill 91 only affects those persons who did not earn a high school diploma SOLELY for the reason of being unable to pass the GHSGT, the GHSWT, or its predecessor(s). If you did not get a diploma due to failure to meet specific high school course unit requirements, this law does not apply to you. Linked here are a copy of House Bill 91, the Petition for High School Diploma form, the Diploma Petition Timeline, and the HB91-High School Graduation Diploma Petition-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document.
