The Lowndes County Board of Education will have a Called Board Meeting Saturday, May 19th at 7:30 am at the Lowndes High School Fieldhouse for the purpose of seeking approval of a legal agreement.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Georgia HB 251 School Choice

HB 251 is an amendment to Georgia law that provides parents an option to transfer their child into another public school within the same district, as long as there is available classroom space. The law does not apply to charter schools, magnet programs, or newly-opened schools (for four years from the school’s opening date). 

Each school district in Georgia is tasked with defining available classroom space. The Lowndes County School District’s plan for compliance with HB 251 was created using the framework provided by the Georgia Department of Education.

After careful analysis of the student population for the upcoming year, NO Lowndes schools have been deemed to have adequate permanent classroom space to accommodate School Choice transfer students for the 2012-2013 year.  The past several years of budget cuts have forced increases in class sizes leaving no adequate space in any class at any school to accommodate School Choice. 

Students who are currently approved for School Choice may continue in their school of choice until the exit grade, but no new applications for any students will be accepted for the 2012-13 school year.  

Hardships will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Anyone with extenuating circumstances should contact Centralized Enrollment and speak with Owen Prince.  Centralized Enrollment is located in the Annex of the Board of Education building on Norman Drive and can be reached at 229-245-2250 ext 1830.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten Registration for the 2012-13 school year continues at the Lowndes County Board of Education Annex. Please visit our Kindergarten Registration page for more information. While all Pre-K classes housed at each of our seven elementary schools are full, students may still be registered and will be placed on the waiting list.  For more information, see our Pre-K Registration page. Central enrollment is open for student registration Monday - Thursday from 8 am to 2 pm and on Friday from 8 am to 1 pm.  Central enrollment is located in the Board of Education Annex located at the Lowndes County Board of Education, 1592 Norman Drive.
