Lowndes County School Board members, Superintendent Wes Taylor and assistant superintendents Ken Overman and Rodney Green spent the day Monday reflecting on the 2016-17 school year and planning for the future.  The group gathered at the central office for its annual retreat to review the Strategic Plan, student achievement results, and the 2017-18 budget.

Superintendent Taylor set the tone for the day with a devotion entitled, “The Importance of Trust and Communication” followed by his Annual State of the System Report.  Mr. Taylor highlighted multiple achievements received across the system on the regional, state, and national levels.  As evidenced by multiple metrics the Lowndes County School System is excelling, however, there is always room for improvement and we are constantly looking for ways to increase student achievement and improve the infrastructure of our system.

The board reviewed strategic goals and action plans and discussed how the financial stability of the district supports continued academic improvement.  Board Chairman Eric Johnson stated, “One of our goals is to increase transparency in our financial practices, policies, and actions.  We conducted our retreat locally and we invite the public to view our eBoard site where you will find board meeting agendas, presentations, financial reports, and meeting minutes.”

Taylor indicated that he thought the retreat was a success and he was proud of the way the board worked together to help move the system forward.  “We have an effective instructional plan in place which is implemented by caring and competent teachers and we are being good stewards of the resources we have been entrusted with by the tax payers of Lowndes County.  The future of the Lowndes County School System is bright and exciting.”
