To fulfill its obligation under the Georgia Student Data Privacy, Accessibility, and Transparency Act, the Lowndes County Board of Education at its November 14 meeting adopted policies JR-Student Records and JRA-Student Data Privacy Complaints.
These policies represent the commitment of the system to keep student data secure and to inform parents of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Student Data Privacy, Accessibility, and Transparency Act of Georgia. Policy JRA also establishes a process for making student data privacy complaints.
The current Lowndes County Schools Student Parent Handbook addresses confidentiality of student and parent rights under FERPA. At the November 14 meeting, the Board approved revised language for the student parent handbook to reflect the new policies.
Policies JR and JRA and the revisions for the handbook are linked below.
