A special congratulations to Lowndes High School seniors Jack Crawford and Ethan Wetherington!  They are recipients of Georgia Tech's prestigious Stamps President's Scholarship (SPS).  The Stamps President's Scholars Program is Georgia Tech’s premier merit-based scholarship. It is a nationally prestigious merit scholarship program that helps exceptional students become meaningful leaders throughout society. Since its inception in 1981, the program has maintained as its objective the selection and enrollment of students who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, progress, and service and have strong potential to become leaders on campus and in the community.

These young men will become part of a group of approximately 40 students selected to participate in the Stamps Presidential Scholars Program.   30,000 applicants, 8,000 enrolled, 40 in SPS, and two from Lowndes High School!  This honor includes a full-ride scholarship covering all tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meal plan, books, personal expenses and a stipend for a laptop.   And last years’ freshman index indicated the cost for attendance was approximately $27,000 in state.

These young men will also be required to participate in opportunities that will extend them out further into the GT community, the nation, and the world. They will participate in retreats, lectures, conduct research and expand their world view – some of the Tech Treks have included destinations like Belize, Croatia, Scotland, Iceland, Argentina just to name a few.  They will received $15,000 in enrichment grant funds to attend conferences, travel abroad, pursue a business patent, conduct research – whatever their passions. These students are expected not only to receive the financial benefits this scholarship affords, they are also expended to pay it forward to society.

Congratulations to Jack and Ethan for an outstanding accomplishment. They will make a difference in our world and will no doubt continue the rich legacy of outstanding and accomplished Lowndes High School alumni!
